For years we have noticed the sign for Yama and have wanted to try it. The restaurant is tucked away on the second floor of a retail building (elevator available) and is small and charming. It is decorated with typical Japanese items and the wait staff wears authentic Japanese dress. Yama makes good use of mirrors which give the impression that the rooms are much larger than they actually are. There is a Tatami room in the rear with two tables that seat six people and a sushi bar with stools is also available. Fresh carnations adorn the tables that have Japanese style high back chairs. Wendy is always disturbed by dirty ceiling tiles, especially around air vents, and this restaurant has an impressively clean ceiling! Yama has a pleasant air to it. The waitresses scurry about explaining the menu items and are very attentive to the customers. We liked the "feel" of the place!

RESTAURANT: YAMA 245 Washington Street,
Wellesley, MA DATE: August 2004 MEAL: Dinner DECOR: BREAD: SALAD: Boston lettuce with a gingery
dressing (included in meal) Typical and okay APPETIZER: Miso Soup (included in meal ) -
Typical and good ENTREE: Beef Negimaki ($16.95) Very Good
- A nice sauce and tender meat. Served very hot as if it had
come directly from stove to table. Served with rice on the
side. Seafood Tempura ($16.95) Very
Good - The batter was crunchy and did not overwhelm the
items. A good sized portion with 10 pieces. We do not care
for imitation crab used in Tempura dishes, but we find that
many restaurants are doing it now. The batter does not stick
to the pieces well. DESSERT: OTHER: Relatively easy to park on the
street Dress is casual Bring your own
beer Take-out
available OVERALL: B+ Wendy A nice place to dine that has
very good food and a nice atmosphere. We don't always agree
on our ratings and sometimes it has nothing to do with the
restaurant. It could just be our mood that
day!
