We stumbled upon this restaurant while driving uptown to depart the city. We were lucky, this was a good find! We thought from the name that it might offer only sushi, but we found out differently. The menu includes lots of Maki and Temaki, but also Tempura, Appetizers, Salads, Teriyaki, and other entrees. The cuisine is Hunan, Szechuan or Cantonese. There is a Lunch Bento Box Specials that includes salad, soup, and rice for under $6.00. There are also 25 luncheon specials served every day from 11:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. that cost $3.85 and include rice (pork fried, white or brown). The menu lists 16 "Healthy and Diet Foods" too. The restaurant has about 20 tables and a small sushi bar. Crossed bamboo poles separate the seating areas and Japanese pictures hang on the walls. This is an informal spot. We wouldn't go too far out of our way to visit it, but since we were in the neighborhood, it was a very nice choice.
RESTAURANT: ORIENTAL SUSHI 1580 1st Avenue (Between 82 and
83rd), New York, NY DATE: March, 2003 MEAL: Lunch BREAD: SALAD: APPETIZER: ENTREE: Chicken Tempura ($10.95)
Excellent - lightly battered and crispy. Attractively
presented. Chicken and Shrimp - Luncheon
Special ($5.25) - Served with hot and sour soup (nicely
spiced) and egg roll (thick wrapper and mediocre
ingredients). The rice came on the side instead of on the
same plate, the way many luncheon specials are served. This
meant that the serving of the entree was very ample for a
lunch portion. It was nicely prepared and
served. DESSERT: OTHER: Parking at meters on the
street Dress is casual No M.S.G. used in the
cooking Free delivery OVERALL: A- A good choice for some nicely
prepared and served dishes. We would return if we were
nearby.
