Teacher Process
This is a copy of the Students Process Page:
Before you start your investigation, you will have read with your teacher the following stories: Johnny Appleseed, by Aliki and The Seasons of Arnold's Apple Tree, by Gail Gibbons.

Your teacher will have placed you into groups according to your interest. The groups will be Spring, Summer, Winter, Fall, Johnny Appleseed, and Apples.

Here's where your investigation will start!

Teacher Process:
As you are aware, this WebQuest is the culminating activity to an Apple Unit. See teacher resources for additional activities that were conducted during the Apple Unit.
Now that these activities are completed, it is your duty to help the students complete the WebQuest. As a facilitator of this WebQuest, you might need toguide your students through the various activities. The guiding depends on the individual needs of the teams.
Before you send the students off to the computers, make sure that you have read both The Seasons of Arnold's Apple Tree and The Story of Johnny Appleseed. Make sure that you have addressed the similarities and differences of the main characters in both stories.
To be prepared for the WebQuest, you will need:
The Seasons of Arnold's Apple Tree, by Gail Gibbons
The Story of Johnny Appleseed, by Aliki
Popsicle sticks
Glue, crayons, scissors
precut oak-tag ovals for props
printer for activity sheets
As a teacher, it is up to you on how you would like to split your class into the six groups. Here are some suggestions:
You may want to have a "good reader" per group, who can assist in reading the WebQuest instructions.
Have students select their interest group. Limit the number of students per group so that the number of students in your class are equally divided.
When it is time for the play, you might want to send an invitation home to parents as well as to the faculty in the school. It is up to you as a teacher how big this production will be. If you feel that you want to invite other classes, you may feel you want the play in the auditorium.
Also remember you might want to have a dress rehearsal with your students prior to the videotaping. You might at this time write the facts on the back of their props so that your students have a reference.
