Early winter Boston Harbor
TASL census summary:
1980 - 2000

This is the updated version of the table originally presented in Early Winter TASL Censuses in Boston Harbor: A Summary of Results 1980-1997. Maury also has presented the mid-winter (January) counts in a separate table. Finally, two tables presenting data (weather or otherwise) that might have affected the counts are also here: Early winter census conditions; mid winter census conditions.

We have completed 20 years of TASL Harbor counts. Coincidentally, the MWRA (Massachusetts Water Resources Authority), the agency in charge of Greater Boston sewage disposal, which Maury works for, has finally turnd on the big pipe, taking secondary treated sewage out nine miles into Massachusetts Bay. The immediate visible effect of this has been a dramatic decrease in the number of gulls in the harbor. TASL census results over the next decade may give us other data which will compare and contrast with the results of the censuses in the past.
