Folks,

Since most of you already keep the TASL data on an excel (or equivalent) spreadsheet, we can simplify compilation if everyone uses the excel datasheet above. For everyone this will provide the same datasheet with bird names in the same order. Also, please use the same version of excel. (For now I request version 6/95)

Enter your site numbers or names at the top of the columns and resave it. Then each time you open it to use and add data, save it with the date of the census, keeping the original with your site names so you don't have to enter them each time.

  • Problem: You see a bird not on the list.
  • Solution: Add it at the very end and tell us in a note. The entire database has to be updated and a new line inserted in several sheets in order to keep everything from way back (since 1980, remember?) synchronized.
Hint: There is a hidden column (B) with an ordering code for the birds. That's one way that I can keep everything somewhat coordinated.

  • Problem: You have a later version of excel.
  • Solution: You can "Save as" to version 6/95.

  • Problem: You have a mac or an earlier version of excel.
  • Solution: Talk to me. I'm able to translate mac files at work. I can also loan you excel 6/95.
