From Linda Pivacek, Nahant:
Froze my (eye) balls off!
Wind chill was horrid, as you well know. Sure there were more birds out
there we couldn't find in the chop or see through frozen eyeballs.
From Fay Vale, Winthrop:
Yes, it was a snipe. Peter flushed it at spot 4.
From Dave Lange, Squantum:
Southern harbor frozen; no access to tip of Long Island.
After a perilous walk up and down the icy trail to Squaw Rock we all quickly
forgot about the return trip when Tom spotted a nice male Barrow's Goldeneye
not far of the point! It flew out shortly after we arrived.
From Maury Hall, Weymouth:
Actually, I had a good day compared to January. Eider were up to about 500
with more open water. Other than that just a coyote crossing over from
World's End to the Hingham Bay Islands.
From Paul Fitzerald, Hull:
Sue Shapiro and I did indeed do Hull on Sunday. The ocean side was a total
joke: roughest seas I've ever seen for a TASL. There was considerably more
open water on the bay side (between Hogaka SpinnakerIsland and
Peddocks) than on the last count but we didn't see very many ducks there
either. We expected to find it packed with birds getting out of the wind
but no such luck.
Read 'em and weep.
