SPAM Filter Setup Procedures

Outlook Express 5.x -  Rules

Outlook Express allows you to control the destination of incoming email based on several different user defined criteria which are called "Rules". One of these "Rules" takes all  messages with a certain word or words in the subject line and sends them to a specified folder. You can use this rule to take all messages with [SPAM?] in the subject line and send them to a SPAM folder that you create. This will help keep your Inbox less cluttered with unwanted email. You can check your SPAM folder once a day or so to quickly see if there are any emails of interest to you. Then you can clean out this folder by deleting all the emails.

Setting up a  Rule to create a SPAM Filter

1. Open up Outlook Express. At the top, click on Tools then Rules as shown below:

2. In the "Rule name:" box type in :  SPAM. In the "If" section, select "Subject", then "Contains" then type in:  [SPAM?] in the empty box at the right.

3. In the "Then" section, select "Move message". Click on the drop down menu to the right, then click on New. Type in "SPAM" and click on OK. Click on OK again and say Yes when it asks if you want to save changes.
