SPAM Filter Setup Procedurs

Netscape 4.5, 4.7, 6.0, 7.0 - Message Filters

Netscape allows you to control the destination of incoming email based on several different user defined criteria which are called "Message Filters". One of these "Message Filters" takes all  messages with a certain word or words in the subject line and sends them to a specified folder. You can use this filter to take all messages with [SPAM?] in the subject line and send them to a SPAM folder that you create. This will help keep your Inbox less cluttered with unwanted email. You can check your SPAM folder once a day or so to quickly see if there are any emails of interest to you. Then you can clean out this folder by deleting all the emails.

Setting up a Message Filter in Netscape

1. Open up Netscape. Open up the email client (Messenger). At the top, click on Edit then Message Filters as shown below:

2. Click on New.

3. Type in Spam for the filter name. Select "Any of the following" under "For incoming messages that match:" In the first dropdown box select "Subject". In the second dropdown box select "contains". In the third box type: [SPAM?] .

Under "Perform this action:" select "Move to folder". Click on "New Folder" on the right. Create a folder called SPAM. Click on OK. Click on OK again to exit Message Filters.
