Yes, there are other ways to send files via the Internet apart from email. One way is to use FTP (File Transfer Protocol). You can upload files from work into the 5 megs of web space that comes with your Galaxy account and then retrieve these files from home. There are FTP programs you can download for free such as WS_FTP LE or Cute FTP to accomplish this (Click Here). One easy way to transfer files via FTP is to use Internet Explorer. Using your Galaxy account username and password type in ftp://yourusername:yourpassword@gis.net into the address field of Internet Explorer and hit enter on your keyboard. You will see a Public_html folder and possibly a few other files. Go to File in the upper left hand corner of Internet Explorer then click on New > Folder. You can name the folder "File Transfers" or something similar. See below:
Find the file on your hard drive that you wish to transfer. If you wish you can type C:/Folder Name/filename right into another Internet Explorer browser window. Using your right mouse button, right click on the file you wish to transfer then click on copy as shown below:
Go to the "File Transfers" folder in your Galaxy web space. Put your cursor on the folder then click your right mouse button and then click paste. See below:
This will upload the file to your web space and you
will be able to download it to your computer at home by copying and pasting in the same manner. Note: You can also drag
and drop files from one folder to another to accomplish the same task.
