A WORD ABOUT

  THE CONSTRUCTION

OF THE SUGAL SERIES III & IV

One of the main differences between our saxophones and other manufacturers of saxophones you may have seen on the Internet is in  the construction and quality of our instruments

It is common knowledge that the saxophone bodies of most other manufacturers  especially those produced in China and Taiwan have forged power keys and are annealed once and assembled completely in China or Taiwan .

It is our opinion that the difficult and tedious process of annealing the metal three times allows the horn to resonate or “breathe” much more freely.

If an instrument can be “tripled annealed” most if not all of the internal stress is removed in the process.   The metal becomes tempered thus allowing it to “breathe while at the same time the overall molecular structure becomes stronger and of course alloys the metal to resonate clearer.

The Gary Sugal PROFESSIONAL Series III and IV saxophones have “triple annealed” bodies, necks, as well as annealed bells, thereby producing a “truer” “clearer” more powerful centered sound.

Sugal Professional Saxophones

(Series IV) Features High "G" Mechanism

All of the Gary Sugal PROFESSIONAL Series IV Saxophones feature our high "G" mechanism. This popular   feature is found exclusively only in the top of line professional saxophones. The high "G" enables players to extend the range of horn into the altissimo without using alternate fingerings or modifying the embouchure.

Sugal Saxophones Features Base Plates At the Heart of Each Note!

During the production of  sound the saxophone depends on a tube or chamber of air stream to resonate generating a sound. Any constraining walls will distort that sound and resonance characteristic as the air flows through the column.

In order to mass produce and satisfy consumer demands a number of instrument manufacturers find short cuts and use lesser productions methods to artificially create a smooth flow through the column.

As you probably know Sugal saxophones are one of the  most resonant  saxophones on the market.

That is due to the fact that we have designed a re-enforced "plate" to provide a dynamic  resonant sound  throughout the full range of all our  saxophones.  The "plate"  provides the player with  a firm "sturdy sound in the mid range with a sturdy pronunciations of each and every note

Sugal High "F" Key Mechanism

We feature a comfortable spatula styled high "F"  key. The left hand index finger can easily access a rolling                high "F" key at the top of the left side of the horn..

The player uses a rolling motion of the index finger as you would on a Bb clarinet. This is the correct mechanism and manipulation of the key. The "rolling" movement which is conducive to the fast action during performance is the ideal   alternate fingering for the high F.

The key design on the "SUGAL SAXOPHONE is a beautifully formed spatula which feels and looks great.

Sugal Rounded Octave Keys

Sugal saxophones feature a neat octave key " thumb rest" with a rounded profile and  provides the player with a comfortable position for support of the instrument.

Changing octaves keys with this rounded profile thumb rest easily allows the player to perfectly  position his or her thumb and provides an ease of use rarely found on other saxophones.

The player will never experience a  "pinched" thumb between the speaker key and the thumb rest.

Balanced Bell Brace "Tri-Point-Feature"

Sugal saxophones feature a "Tri-Point Brace Feature" found on a number of other high end professional saxophones.

The saxophone bell needs to be connected to the body of the saxophone via a "brace" styled structure. This brace is of great importance for assembly- strength and even more  importantly the generation of sound production through the main column.

Sugal recognized this importance and re-designed the bell brace for long term strength and the unsurpassed resonance of sound production. The clear centered sound production is sustained throughout the full range of the horn right up to the upper altissimo range.

Although this little known fact regarding the bell brace may seem as a insignificant  fact the truth is that from an   engineering point  a 'stress raiser' has to be addressed.. In the event  your instrument is dropped  the bell brace will insure  the stress points  way save the major and important sections of the saxophone. Most any reliable  repairman can then replace the bell, Having a "Tri Point Bell Brace" will lesson the damage to the instrument.

Table Key Mechanism Connects C# - Bb  Keys

An easily recognizable feature found on professional saxophones is the low C# -Bb "Table Key mechanism".

The "connected mechanism"  keys allows the player to fluently slide the pinky finger on the left hand from the Bb to the C# and return without lifting the finger. The ability to flawlessly "flow" back and forth allows the player to avoid creating unwanted notes. Most if not all student horns do not have nor feature this type of mechanism.

Sugal Water Proof Air Tight  Pads

All  quality saxophones rely heavily on fine quality components, such as steel springs, rods and waterproof pads. On less expensive saxophones one finds other manufacturers use components of  lesser quality. A set of inferior quality pads will adversely affect the overall playability of the instrument.

Sugal Saxophones in there never ending desire to achieve perfection and excellence as well as to improve the integrity of the saxophone utilizes only the finest American  leather water proof pads. This will ensure the instruments playing longevity by protecting it from natural acidic saliva while at the same time providing an air tight flawless playing instrument. The tightness of the "pad seal"  is of paramount importance to the superb resonance of each Sugal saxophone.

Water tight pads and metal reflectors can take an ordinary saxophone  to another higher ‘playing’ level. We provide  water proof pads and metal resonators to focus and enhance the purity of sound. We insist on using  the finest American leather pads with metal resonators, reinforced rods, double bracing throughout the entire horn is standard as well as tempered steel springs.
