Philip Evergood (1907 - 1973) Born in New York City. Known for murals and figurative art. Name changed from Blashki to Evergood. Traveled to England, Belgium, Paris, Italy, Spain and returned to NYC. Studied at Eton, Cambridge University, Slade School in London [studied drawing under Henry Tonks and sculpture under Havard Thomas] , Academie Julian with Jean-Paul Laurens and Andre Lhote. Early Provincetown artist, studied under Karl Knaths, long time member of Provincetown Art Association & Museum (PAAM). Joined Public works of Art Project (WPA) mural section and the Federal Art Project of the WPA (1934-1937). Taught at American Artists School. Extensive museums, shows and awards including the Tuthill Prize, Art Institute of Chicago, Altman Prize, National Academy of Design, 1971, collections include Metropolitan Museum of Art, NY, Whitney Museum, Brooklyn Museum, MoMA. |
