"Rene Ricard was supposed to be Andy and Edie was in it with him. She was in a bad way, and we thought we could help her, even though she had been so mean to do what she did [leaving Warhol]. Andy really liked her and I did too. We thought it might work, but it wasn't any good. All Rene did was look in the camera and say nasty things about Andy, and it was really embarrassing because he thought he'd be funny. I remember very well Andy just not finding it funny at all, but anybody else in that circumstance would have turned the camera off and he wouldn't."
Paul Morrissey

"I made a film with Edie about nine months after she left the Factory. Andy suggested, 'Let's do a movie with you as me in it. The Andy Warhol Story. I really hated Andy by then. I realized his was a passive exploitation - that it could be humiliating and horrible. He had been asking me to do this for a long time and I had refused. But one night I took an Obetrol - a very powerful twenty five milligram amphetamine pill, the best. They were very hard to get, rare and very good... So I finally said okay. The only reason I agreed to do his film was to get even with him..."

left red arrow Portrait of Anton Webern (cira, 1967)
Hitler's rise to power in the Thirties and the eventual forceful annexation of Austria brought great personal hardship to the Weberns. In 1933 his mentor, Schoenberg, emigrated to America. Webern's modernist music was banned, and his works burned. He stayed in his home in Mödling near Vienna and worked as a proofreader in Vienna to avoid forced labor for the Nazis. On Easter, 1945, he moved his family to Mittersill, near Salzburg, where he thought they would be safer. There he was shot to death by a nervous American occupation soldier on Sept. 15, 1945 while smoking a cigar - after curfew - on the porch of his home. It has been said that the soldier was involved in the black market, and he thought Webern was an MP spying on him.

A typical day for Bacon would start with furious painting followed by lunch at Wheelers in Compton Street, his favourite Soho restaurant selling seafood and oysters, where he would buy everyone champagne. - Museum of London (with edited image by PantherProUSA Web Design)

"Light is the artist's sole medium of expression. He must mold it by optical means, almost as a sculptor models clay. He must add colour, and finally motion to his creation. Motion, the time dimension, demands that he must be a choreographer in space.." Thomas Wilfred
