Makes Taoist Cosmology Unique
?
The Taoist perspective on human anatomy and physiology is based on observations made thousands of years ago in deep meditation, observations concerning the correspondences between organs, emotions, senses, colors, and seasons. Five Element Theory describes this Taoist cosmology, and a way of understanding relationships between these five elements, five energies, five organ pairs. This is a very pragmatic philosophy. It provides many entry ways for the serious student to enter into a direct experience of the links between internal vitality and the energies of the cosmos. The expression "As above, so below" comes to life through meditation, movement, and internal alchemy. Benefits accrue in physical, emotional, mental, and spiritual dimensions.
Each organ pair resonates to a different frequency. Using these sounds and postures helps the organs release heat and toxins, which results in profound physical and emotional rejuvenation. For example, the liver is associated with the emotion anger. With its sound and posture, anger can be transformed to the virtue Kindness. Because of awareness of these correspondences, Taoists do not worry about cause and effect, nor do they make a big distinction between physical and emotional disorders. Rather they see illness as an indication that things are out of balance. They developed a vast array of tools for self-healing and accessing energy directly from the forces of nature, including meditation formulas, T'ai Chi Chi Kung, and self-massage.
