Dear NHS Alumnus:
In 1989 something very special happened in Needham. While meeting for their 50th year class reunion, NHS Class of 1939 collected $3,000 to donate back to the Needham Public Schools which had given them so much. Instead of making the usual gift of a computer or equipment, this remarkable group of people wanted to make a gift that would benefit every child in the Needham school system and last forever .
Their vision became the inspiration for the Needham Education Foundation, Inc. (NEF). Established in 1990, the NEF is a non-profit organization that supports innovation, excellence and enrichment in the Needham Public Schools. NEF grants represent a true kaleidoscope of knowledge. During our seven years we have awarded over ninety grants, totaling more than $175,000, directly to teachers and for the benefit of students at every level of the school system.
More than 2,000 neighbors and alumni already have contributed to the NEF to continue the tradition of educational excellence that has been the hallmark of the Needham Public Schools. With our ongoing fundraising, the original $3,000 already has grown into a Sustaining Fund of more than $500,000!
We thank the many alumni who responded two years ago to our first appeal and hope that you will continue your generous support. We are halfway to our goal of creating a lasting permanent fund and we need your help. Tax deductible donations of all amounts are gratefully accepted and can be made in honor of a special teacher, in memory of a classmate, in celebration of your class reunion, or in support of educational excellence.
