pheasant season 1997.

We take the approach to raising and breeding dogs not so much as a "business", but rather as an overgrown hobby. Greylock Glen Griffons is a family affair, established in 1990 by Bob and Kathy Mularczyk, and currently owned and operated by their son Michael.

The Wirehaired Pointing Griffon is first and foremost a hunting dog, and it is our goal with every breeding to strengthen these hunting traits while maintaining the classic features and characteristics according to the breed standard. Each breeding is carefully considered and researched, and we only have puppies when we feel we will be able to produce top notch hunting dogs.

We now have the benefit of two locations - Mike is located in Massachusetts, which allows us to enjoy hunting seasons in MA, NY and VT, pursuing a variety of upland game and waterfowl. Bob and Kathy have moved to their retirement home in North Carolina, which allows us to continue an "endless hunting season" chasing quail well into February, as well as getting a second chance at ducks coming down the Atlantic flyway. Mike is a NAVHDA apprentice judge and has been hunting with Griffons for over 20 years.

Our first introduction to bird dogs was Brittany Spaniels, which, although wonderful pointers, have a hunting style better suited for the plains of the Mid West rather than the small, woodsy pockets of cover found in New England. We were also looking for a dog which had better versatility regarding water work.

We've found the Griff is a close ranging, easily controlled dog with an excellent nose. These dogs excel in work that requires concentration, tracking, or a precise way of working. Although their pointing style is not as dynamic as field trial dogs, they are very intense and through. They are very eager to please and their close ranging, precise, methodical style make them the ideal companion for the walking hunter in pursuit of pheasants, partridge, woodcock and doves.

Griffons also excel at water work. These dogs simply love the water and will not hesitate to make a retrieve in the coldest and roughest of water. Their work with ducks is exceptional because of their ability to not only retrieve, but to use their keen nose to track ducks on the water; making a wounded bird easy to retrieve.

As hunters, the days of having the physical space, time and financial means to own a variety of "specialist" dogs unfortunately belong to another era... The Wirehaired Pointing Griffon is an intelligent, easy to train dog whose willingness to please, robustness, resistance to foul weather, practical all terrain ability make it the ideal companion for the practical and rustic hunter.
