In From Here to the Hereafter with Emily Dickinson actress Belinda West presents the life and poetry of Emily Dickinson. The program, in two acts, is part concert, poetry reading and interactive theater.
Many of Miss Dickinson's finest and most beautiful poems deal with death and immortality. "From Here to the Hereafter" affords all aspects of the poet's verse from the haunting to the lyrical.
The live piano music, played by Jacqueline Schwab, reflects both popular and classical music during the 1860's. Selections range from an English country dance to a Bach minuet and include reels, shape note tunes, and the famous folk melody "Shoo Fly Don't Bother Me". Ms. Schwab is best known as the pianist for Ken Burns' documentaries "The Civil War" and "Baseball".
