                                            Some tips for novices for the Ed Dever Run
*This course includes 17.8 miles with 4 major hills, but you will notice in the course profile below that there is lot more flat terrain than hills. This flat area (especially on the way out), is a good place to conserve energy and run at a very comfortable pace.
*If you want to run with some company or friend  make sure they run the same pace as you.
* You will find out as you do more long runs, that running at the right pace is critical
* If you are nursing an injury take a rain check, or cut this course short.

*Other things you can do is carbo load the night before  the run as well as get as much sleep as you can.
* During the run drink as much Gatorade as your stomach can safely handle
*Do not speed on the down hill  this will save your quad muscles on your legs which act as brakes.

*Another "tool" that seemed to help me through the course is prior to the run, to just sit in a chair somewhere, and
visualize every nook and cranny on the course. Just picture yourself successfully overcoming all obstacles on the course. When  I encountered the real thing, your mind and body will be programmed to handle everything the course that comes your way
. The more you vizualize the course the easier it will be when you run it.  It is not magic.... try it

If you don't have an underlying injuries, and you have been doing the weekday and weekend  training, you should be able to complete the course
