I = Interviewer
F = Francis Reader (lead singer)
J = John Douglas (rhythm guitar)
I: Tonight the Trash Can Sinatras are going to play live in session for us...hello.
All: Hello.
I: Now Frank, you're the man who always tries to avoid being interviewed -
F: Francis.
I: Well Francis, good evening, sir. So to make up for that you can introduce us to the rest of the band before the first song and tell us what the first song's going to be.
F: On my left I think is Davey, on my extreme left Paul, dead center Stephen and on the right, John.
I: Okay, and what are you going to play for us first?
F: "How Can I Apply...?"
I: Take it away, chaps.
(TCS play "How Can I Apply...?")
I: "How Can I Apply...?" from the Trash Can Sinatras, playing live for us there on Radio Scotland's "Jump the Q", and it is of course about three years since the last time we had a new album from the band. They've been tucked away at various times. I wouldn't say working 24 hours a day 'round the clock down at Shabby Road studios in Kilmarnock -
J: You'd be surprised.
I: But certainly spent some of the time getting things together and the new record's on the way very soon. Tell me more.
J: We've got a single out on Monday, a four track thing, on Monday the 11th. And after that there will be another single and then a new album in due course.
I: I believe we mentioned earlier that if people want to get involved in a film -
J: Aye.
I: - with the Trash Can Sinatras, there's a phone number for them, so what's the film all about?
J: There's a film getting made in a bar and...it's kind of set in a bar and we're the band playing in the bar and some of the songs are going to be featured in it. It's just a little 20 minute short thing and we're kind of keen on it cuz it hopefully will surface videos for the songs cuz we're a bit shy about doing them, it's a bit of a pain, so this is kind of an imaginative way of doing it really.
I: Apart being able to chop the film up and use it for individual songs, what's the wider plan for it?
J: I don't know. Hopefully it will get shown as a B-movie. there's talk of it being a supporting slot for a few films but we'll wait and see what happens really; all of that stuff's kind of out of our hands you know.
I: I don't think there's enough B-movies being shown these days, I think cinema is taking itself a bit too seriously these days.
F: Right.
J: Aye, I used to like those Edgar Losgarten (?) things, used to be on late at night...B-movie stuff.
I: Yeah, yeah, excellent. Another song? what are we going to have this time?
J: It's called "The Safecracker".
(TCS play "The Safecracker")
I: Trash Can Sinatras playing live for us with one of the songs you'll find on their new album coming out on the 23rd of May; of course before then they've got the single coming next Monday and live stuff on the way I believe John?
J: Aye, we're playing in Edinburgh on this Thursday night the 7th and then next week we're playing Falkirk, Glasgow...
F: There you go, there's the list.
J: 13th the Club Martel in Falkirk, 14th Lucifer's in Dundee and 15th Glasgow at The Garage.
I: Okay, and if you want to get in touch with the band about the film, you need to be available on the 10th, 11th and 12th of March, that's Sunday, Monday and Tuesday of next week. In the mean time, Trash Can Sinatras thanks for playing live in session for us.
TCS: Cheers.
