VOLUNTEER
ACTIVITIES
Volunteers
are always needed for various events and activities. We can
always use help, particularly in caring for our cats at the
Petsmart stores in Braintree and Hyannis. If you have some time
and would like to help us out, contact the Friends
of the Plymouth Pound for more information. Here are just a few
recent photographs showing Friends of the Plymouth Pound
volunteers in action:

The Friends of
the Plymouth Pound's annual fund-raising Pet Walk-A-Thon was conducted
on Saturday September 8, 2007. Here are some of the assembled
volunteers and fund-raising dog-walkers who
participated at Morton Pond Park in Plymouth, MA. |
| Here are just a few of the many
dogs that participated in the dog walk. It was sunny and cool. A great
day for walking... |
 |
 |
A team from the Best Buy store
in the Kingston Mall participated in the dog walk. They brought their
own T-shirts as well as some dogs. |
| A few cats participated in the
event. They did not walk, but they were there throughout the day all
the same. |
 |
 |
Here's a shot of the BBQ that
followed the dog walk. The BBQ was located in a shady grove right next
to Morton Pond. |
| This terrific cake, which was
custom-decorated with the FPP's logo, was donated by Dessert Works in
Norwood. |

Walk-A-Thon 2005
 |
The Friends of
the Plymouth Pound hold a fund-raising Pet Walk-A-Thon
every year at Morton Pond Park in Plymouth, MA during
early September. This year's event was held on Saturday
September 10th. |
| Here are some of the hundred or
so people who participated in 2005's Pet Walk-A-Thon at the FPP's
registration and sales tables. |
 |
 |
This year the Friends of the
Plymouth Pound had a variety of crafts and other items available for
direct sale, silent auction, or raffle. Nearly everything on these
tables had been donated to the FPP by local businesses or volunteers. |
| Here are a few of the dog
walkers out on the trails at Morton Pond Park with their dogs. Many of
the dogs who participated in the Pet Walk-A-Thon were adopted through
the Friends of the Plymouth Pound. |
 |
 |
The Pet Walk-A-Thon always ends
with a big BBQ in a wooded picnic area next to Morton Pond. Why not
plan to participate next year? It's a lot of fun and the funds raised
by the walkers goes 100% to the Friends of the Plymouth Pound to help
rescue abandoned dogs and cats. |
August Rescue
 |
On August 21st 2005 Friends of
the Plymouth Pound volunteers drove six dogs and and equal number of
cats from a shelter in North Carolina where homeless pets are
euthanized after a period of time to our facilities in Massachusetts,
where they will be cared for until they find new homes. |

Walk-A-Thon 2004
 |
This year's Pet Walk-A-Thon,
which was held on September 11th, may have been the best-attended
ever. Over 100 people participated. Here's a view of the registration
table at Morton Pond Park in Plymouth. |
| Here are just three of the more
than 100 walkers who participated in this event. Note the small dog
being carried in a bag secured around the neck of the woman in the
center of this photo! |

These Walk-A-Thon participants
were pushing their dogs around the wooded paths at the park in
modified baby strollers! |
| Here's an over-view of the
Morton Pond Park picnic area, with the Friends of the Plymouth Pound
cook-out in progress. Plenty of food including hamburgers, hot dogs,
and veggie burgers were served up to the hungry walkers with dog
snacks available for hungry pets. |

The Friends of the Plymouth
Pound hold photo sessions with Santa Claus around Christmastime every
year at the Petsmart stores in Braintree and Hyannis. Here's some of
the crew who helped out at the Hyannis Petsmart during December 2003,

Dog Rescue
 |
Here's a photo taken during a
recent (October 12th) dog rescue operation. The Friends of the
Plymouth Pound periodically take trips to Georgia and other southern
locations to take dogs from kill shelters where they will be gassed if
they remain too long without finding new homes to our shelter in
Massachusetts, where these dogs are kept until they find news homes.
For information on how you can assist in the FPP's rescue efforts go
to this page. |

Walk-A-Thon 2003
 |
The Friends of
the Plymouth Pound hold a fund-raising Pet Walk-A-Thon
every year at Morton Pond Park in Plymouth, MA during
early September. This year's event was held on Saturday
September 13th. Here's the crew at the registration and donation
processing desk. |
| Here's a long line of people and
pets waiting to register for this year's Walk-A-Thon. |
 |
 |
The weather was great for the
Walk-A-Thon and many of the dogs that were brought to the event played
in Morton Pond. |
| After the Walk-A-Thon we always
host a cook-out. Hamburgers and hot dogs as well as a variety of salad
and other vegetarian alternatives are served up. |
 |
Carnival 2003
 |
Due to weather problems, the
annual FPP fund-raising carnival was conducted on Memorial Day weekend
and also during July 4th weekend during 2003. |
| Here's one of our more
publicity-shy volunteers manning one of the ticket booths at the
carnival. |
 |
 |
On the other hand, Jean-Marie
does not appear to have any problem with being photographed. |
| Bob Andrews brought his dog with
him to the carnival. Bob does a lot of volunteer work for the
Friends of the Plymouth Pound. |

FPP volunteer Heather drives a huge 18 wheeler
for a living. She brings dogs up from southern states for us when she's riding through them. She brought
three of our smaller dogs up on April 19th 2003. Heather has helped transport
dogs up north several times over the past year. |

Here are some of
the FPP's walkers and their pets. The area around Morton
Pond is heavily wooded and it makes for a good place to
walk with your pet. |
| Here we have more
of the walkers who participated in the Walk-A-Thon and
their pets. Not only is the FPP's annual Pet Walk-A-Thon
for a good cause, it is also a good place to meet people
and socialize. |
 |
 |
The FPP Pet
Walk-A-Thon is always followed by a BBQ that's free to
all registered walkers. Here we see just a small sample
of the crowd that helped themselves to the hot dogs,
hamburgers, and veggieburgers that were served up hot off
the charcoal grill. |

Animal Rescue Mission
 |
Several Friends
of the Plymouth Pound volunteers recently transported a
number of dogs and cats from a shelter in Georgia to
Massachusetts. Here we see several members of the rescue
team loading up the van. |
| The Georgia
shelter euthanizes dogs and cats if they do not find
homes. This is something that the Friends of the Plymouth
Pound never does. We are a no-kill shelter. Animals in
our care who do not find proper homes are assured a home
with us for life. |

the Plymouth Pound team brought to Massachusetts. Heather
Funk and her husband (both FPP volunteers) adopted one of
these dogs. |
 |
 |
The FPP team
brought eight cats brought back from North Carolina. Here
is one of them. The animals were brought to Massachusetts
in a U-Haul truck. |
| Here are some
tiny puppies that were dumped at the San Lee Humaine
Society. These puppies are now in the care of the Friends
of the Plymouth Pound. Hopefully they'll all be getting
new homes before too much longer. |

pet next year to have its photo taken with Santa and help
out the Friends of the Plymouth Pound at the same time. |

Centers
 |
The Petsmart
stores in Braintree and Hyannis, Massachusetts kindly
support the Friends of the Plymouth Pound by providing
space at their "Luv A Pet" adoption centers. We
are always looking for volunteers to help us care for our
Petsmart store cats. If you would like to help us, at
either Braintree or Hyannis, contact the Friends
of the Plymouth Pound for details. |
