VOLUNTEER ACTIVITIES

Volunteers are always needed for various events and activities. We can always use help, particularly in caring for our cats at the Petsmart stores in Braintree and Hyannis. If you have some time and would like to help us out, contact the Friends of the Plymouth Pound for more information. Pet Walk-A-Thon 2007

Dog Walk 2007 The Friends of the Plymouth Pound's annual fund-raising Pet Walk-A-Thon was conducted on Saturday September 8, 2007. Here are some of the assembled volunteers and fund-raising dog-walkers who participated at Morton Pond Park in Plymouth, MA.

Dog Walk 2007 A team from the Best Buy store in the Kingston Mall participated in the dog walk. They brought their own T-shirts as well as some dogs.

Pet Walk-A-Thon 2006

Dog Walk 2006 The Friends of the Plymouth Pound's annual fund-raising Pet Walk-A-Thon has come and gone for 2006. Here are just a few of the assembled dog-walkers who participated in this event at Morton Pond Park in Plymouth, MA.
Saturday September 9th was a great day not only for the dog walk but also for the BBQ that followed, which is shown here. The walkers raised about $7,000 for the Friends of the Plymouth Pound this year. Dog Walk 2006

Pet Photo Contest

One of the new things things that we did at this year's (2005) Pet Walk-A-Thon was a photo contest. This worked out pretty well and here are the winning photos:

Pet Walk-A-Thon 2005

Dog Walk 2005 The Friends of the Plymouth Pound hold a fund-raising Pet Walk-A-Thon every year at Morton Pond Park in Plymouth, MA during early September. This year's event was held on Saturday September 10th.
Here are some of the hundred or so people who participated in 2005's Pet Walk-A-Thon at the FPP's registration and sales tables. Dog Walk 2005
Dog Walk 2005 This year the Friends of the Plymouth Pound had a variety of crafts and other items available for direct sale, silent auction, or raffle. Nearly everything on these tables had been donated to the FPP by local businesses or volunteers.

Dog Walk 2005 The Pet Walk-A-Thon always ends with a big BBQ in a wooded picnic area next to Morton Pond. Why not plan to participate next year? It's a lot of fun and the funds raised by the walkers goes 100% to the Friends of the Plymouth Pound to help rescue abandoned dogs and cats.

August Rescue

Recent Rescue On August 21st 2005 Friends of the Plymouth Pound volunteers drove six dogs and and equal number of cats from a shelter in North Carolina where homeless pets are euthanized after a period of time to our facilities in Massachusetts, where they will be cared for until they find new homes.

Pet Walk-A-Thon 2004

Walk A Thon 2004 This year's Pet Walk-A-Thon, which was held on September 11th, may have been the best-attended ever. Over 100 people participated. Here's a view of the registration table at Morton Pond Park in Plymouth.

Here's an over-view of the Morton Pond Park picnic area, with the Friends of the Plymouth Pound cook-out in progress. Plenty of food including hamburgers, hot dogs, and veggie burgers were served up to the hungry walkers with dog snacks available for hungry pets. Walk A Thon 2004

FPP Yard Sale

Yard Sale $800 was raised in a "yard sale" held on Sunday July 18th at the Manomet Pet Hospital. Seen here are Elysia and Valery and Valery's dog Kelly, who was rescued from a kill shelter in Georgia.

Live Radio Shows

DJ DJ Dan Mahoney from the ROSE doing a live radio show on WRZE with the FPP's "Pet of the Week", Roman during April 2004.

Every Wednesday at 7:10 a.m. the Friends of the Plymouth Pound have a "Pet of the Week" segment on radio station WRZE 96.3 (Hyannis). The FPP spotlights a different animal awaiting adoption on Dan Mahoney and Kevin Matthews' morning radio show. Tune in if you can.


James Montgomery Band Fundraising Concert

Concert Every year for the past couple of years the James Montgomery Band has held a fundraising concert in Plymouth for the Friends of the Plymouth Pound. This year, the concert was held on January 30th. Here's a shot of the band in action.

Pet Photos with Santa Claus

Santa The Friends of the Plymouth Pound hold photo sessions with Santa Claus around Christmastime every year at the Petsmart stores in Braintree and Hyannis. Here's some of the crew who helped out at the Hyannis Petsmart during December 2003, Faith (in the Santa suit) and Jean Marie.

Dog Rescue

Dog Rescue Here's a photo taken during a recent (October 12th) dog rescue operation. The Friends of the Plymouth Pound periodically take trips to Georgia and other southern locations to take dogs from kill shelters where they will be gassed if they remain too long without finding new homes to our shelter in Massachusetts, where these dogs are kept until they find news homes. Walk A Thon 2003 The weather was great for the Walk-A-Thon and many of the dogs that were brought to the event played in Morton Pond.

Carnival 2003

Carnival Due to weather problems, the annual FPP fund-raising carnival was conducted on Memorial Day weekend and also during July 4th weekend during 2003.

Recent Rescue Action

Rescue FPP volunteer Heather drives a huge 18 wheeler for a living. She brings dogs up from southern states for us when she's riding through them. She brought three of our smaller dogs up on April 19th 2003. Heather has helped transport dogs up north several times over the past year.

Every year around Christmas the Friends of the Plymouth Pound take photos of pets with Santa as a fund-raiser. Here's some of the crew that staffed the photo sessions at the Petsmart store in Hyannis, MA on Saturday December 14th, 2002. From left to right we see Faith (Santa), Marc, Mary Beth, and Felly. Maryland Rescue Mission

Gayle and McKeiver Friends of the Plymouth Pound volunteers recently drove from Massachusetts to Maryland and back to pick up some dogs and cats that were rescued from shelters scattered across North Carolina and West Virginia.  Here is Gayle Fitzpatrick accepting McKiever from the Brooks County WV people.

Pet Walk-A-Thon 2002

Walk A Thon Crowd The Friends of the Plymouth Pound hold a fund-raising Pet Walk-A-Thon every year at Morton Pond Park in Plymouth, MA during early September. This year's event was held on Saturday September 14th. Here's just some of the people and pets who lined up to register before the Walk-A-Thon commenced.

Walkers Here are some of the FPP's walkers and their pets. The area around Morton Pond is heavily wooded and it makes for a good place to walk with your pet.

BBQ The FPP Pet Walk-A-Thon is always followed by a BBQ that's free to all registered walkers. Here we see just a small sample of the crowd that helped themselves to the hot dogs, hamburgers, and veggieburgers that were served up hot off the charcoal grill.

Spay Waggin

Spay Waggin here is the so-called "Spay Waggin", a mobile spay clinic where the Friends of the Plymouth Pound recently got 15 dogs and cats spayed or neutered at low cost.

Georgia Animal Rescue Mission

Georgia Rescue Several Friends of the Plymouth Pound volunteers recently transported a number of dogs and cats from a shelter in Georgia to Massachusetts. Here we see several members of the rescue team loading up the van.
The Georgia shelter euthanizes dogs and cats if they do not find homes. This is something that the Friends of the Plymouth Pound never does. We are a no-kill shelter. Animals in our care who do not find proper homes are assured a home with us for life.

Paw Prints Parade of Pets

Award

The Friends of the Plymouth Pound had another LIVE edition of "Pawprints Parade of Pets" on PACTV between 7 pm and 8:30 pm on Monday April 8th. Here we see Bob Andrews filming host Gayle Fitzpatrick and FPP volunteer Mark Fornaciari presenting an award to Alan Borgal (Director of Law Enforcement for the Animal Rescue League in Boston).

North Carolina Animal Rescue Mission

Rescue Team Several Friends of the Plymouth Pound volunteers recently transferred a large number of homeless cats and dogs from the San Lee Humane Society in North Carolina to Massachusetts.  FPP members Gayle Fitzpatrick, Jeannie Owen, Mark Fornaciari, and Alan Borgal (Director of Law Enforcement for the Animal Rescue League in Boston) were among the people who helped. These three Yellow Lab puppies were among 37 dogs that the Friends of the Plymouth Pound team brought to Massachusetts. Heather Funk and her husband (both FPP volunteers) adopted one of these dogs. Rescued Pups
Rescue Cat The FPP team brought eight cats brought back from North Carolina. Here is one of them. The animals were brought to Massachusetts in a U-Haul truck.
Here are some tiny puppies that were dumped at the San Lee Humaine Society. These puppies are now in the care of the Friends of the Plymouth Pound. Hopefully they'll all be getting new homes before too much longer. Rescued Pups

Braintree Petsmart Store Volunteer's Meeting

Braintree Petsmart Meeting Many of the volunteers who help maintain the FPP's cat shelter at the Petsmart store in Braintree met on Saturday February 23rd 2002 to discuss the pet adoption operation and to get to know each other. Here's a photo of the volunteers who attended this event.

Pet Photos With Santa

Pet Photos With Santa Every year during the holiday season the Friends of the Plymouth Pound take photos of pets with Santa Claus to raise funds for our shelters. This year the photo sessions were held on December 1st and 2nd. Pet Photos With Santa Santa Mike Dubin takes Christmas requests from a Petsmart customer's pet snake with the help of volunteer Lori Cash's daughter Hanna. All kinds of pets are welcome during the photo sessions as long as they can be controlled. Bring your pet next year to have its photo taken with Santa and help out the Friends of the Plymouth Pound at the same time.

Paw Prints Parade of Pets

The Cats Plain and Fancy Cat Show

Cat Show The Friends of the Plymouth Pound were present at the annual Cats Plain and Fancy Cat Show at the Hynes Convention Center in Boston, MA on March 3rd and 4th 2001.

Emma and Abby Here is Abby with her new "mom" Emma. Abby was one of seventeen cats adopted on the spot at the cat show. A number of applications were also filled out, many of which will lead to adoptions later on.

The Petsmart "Luv A Pet" Adoption Centers

Pet Smart Adoption Center The Petsmart stores in Braintree and Hyannis, Massachusetts kindly support the Friends of the Plymouth Pound by providing space at their "Luv A Pet" adoption centers. We are always looking for volunteers to help us care for our Petsmart store cats. If you would like to help us, at either Braintree or Hyannis, contact the Friends of the Plymouth Pound for details.
