Urgent: Help Pass Law to Protect Dogs and Cats

A new business plans to open in Boston this spring. It rents companion dogs by the hour or day for people to use and return on whim like DVDs. The business calls this "flexible ownership", but exploitation by any name hurts. The Friends of the Plymouth Pound joins the Humane Society of the U.S., MSPCA, and many others in condemning this cruel practice. We urge you to act immediately to stop it, before it's too late.

If you care enough about animals to make a few quick phone calls, please ask:

1) Rep. Angelo Scaccia (617-722-2692) to move "An Act Prohibiting the Renting of Pets" (HD 4864) into a committee without delay. If you're his constituent, say so.

2) Your state rep and senator to co-sponsor this bill. Many say they support it, but want to hear from constituents. Find them at http://www.wheredoivotema.com/bal/myelectioninfo.php

Please do it today. The bill must pass by July 31.

If you live in Boston or know animal advocates who do, please email us right away. There are other ways you can help.

Pet rental businesses don't help homeless animals. The "disposable pet" attitude they promote can only lead to more abandonment, adoption returns and abuse. Isn't there already too much?
