ADOPTION

Whether you adopt a cat or dog from one of our shelters or from a special event in your area, you must agree to provide your new companion with a good life. This means that you will not abuse this animal physically or verbally, but will give it the love and attention pets deserve. You will provide a warm, clean home or shelter, adequate food and water, and all necessary vaccinations and medical care. You agree not to breed this animal, but to have it neutered as soon as possible, if it is not already spayed or neutered upon adoption.

If it becomes necessary for you to give up this pet, you will immediately contact the Friends of the Plymouth Pound at (508) 224-6651, who will arrange for its return and/or placement.

In addition, you assume responsibility for this animal and understand that you have fourteen (14) days from the date of adoption to have your own veterinarian examine him/her. If there are any health problems detected, it is your responsibility to inform the Friends of the Plymouth Pound. If this problem can be corrected, the Friends of the Plymouth Pound will discuss potential financial assistance with you. Under no circumstances will you euthanize this animal without the consent of the Friends of the Plymouth Pound. Any medical problems that occur after the initial examination by your vet will be your responsibility as owner.

Each adult animal who is adopted has been tested for feline leukemia and FIV, as well as having updated vaccinations. If your adopted pet has not been spayed/neutered because of its young age, you can consider taking advantage of the Friends of the Plymouth Pound spay/neuter assistance program. Pursuant to Massachusetts state law, all animals adopted from a shelter must be spayed/neutered within one (1) year from the date of adoption.
