Faith and Light, an International Ecumenical Movement, born out of a pilgrimage to Lourdes in 1971. It was intended to help persons with developmental disabilities to find their rightful place in the Church and in society. Our friends with disabilities share their gifts of faith with all who join them in the belief that we are all called to "be a source of grace and peace for the whole community, for the Church and for all humanity"
Following the Pilgrimage many communities formed through out the world. Today there are more than 1300 communities in 72 Countries.
These communities are not residences, but places were the communities meet monthly. They create bonds and form friendships which deepen through common hopes and difficulties. When they gather, they share joyous times and struggling times, prayer and celebration.
Faith and Light offers people with developmental disabilities a real place within the human and Christian family, and allows them to share the gifts of faith, prayer, and a strong relationship with God and each other. We try to help to carry each other's burdens with all those who enter our small world. When one enters the world of a person with developmental disabilities, one understands the value of life and the reality that we all have gifts to share.
Faith and Light Communities establish links between themselves and local parish congregations to be a witness of unity and friendship in a world of division.
