CHECKERING - ART IN ACTION
Checkering is the art of creating diamond
patterns on the grip areas of a
firearm by
cutting transverse grooves with either hand
or power tools.
The checkering allows the
shooter to better control the firearm. Usually
the checkering is cut on the
wooden areas of the firearm, but the
metal
bolt handles and pistol back-straps
can also be checkered for a better
grip.
Shown is an example of checkering
from Hogue
Grips. This grip was
checkered using automated tooling
and cutters specified by Hogue and
manufactured by J&R Engineering.
