![]() The history of the New England Classic Gaming Headquarters and its meetings is a rich tale, passed down through numerous generations of New England gamers. Thankfully, its stories have been preserved for all to see here, compiled chronologically! June 3, 2001 - A legend is born! On this overcast summer afternoon, the pioneers of New England Classic Gaming came together for the first time to take part in trading and gaming. Initiated and hosted in Boston by Christian Scott, the first NECG Meet was a tremendous success relative to those held before it (read: none.) Attendees included Christian, Club Ninja Scott Bertulli, SCSIcide Joe Grand, Unclefreddy Brian, and casual gamer Scott Rose. Cootie the dog was also present, and in search of available legs to meet and greet. Much trading went down, and all left with cart-filled boxes and warm hearts. August 26, 2001 - The framers meet! Early Sunday morning, Scott Bertulli began his trek into Boston to take in a foreign flea market guided by Christian Scott. This trip marked Scott's first successful capture of a wild NES Top Loader. After enjoying the flea, the pair returned to Christian's to work out an Atari 2600 carts for Castle-themed Legos trade. It was at this time that the two agreed upon more frequent meets for the New England gaming community. The sun broke through the clouds on this day. October 7, 2001 - The beginning and smut for all! On this day, the first heavily advertised NECG Meet took place at Christian's abode in Boston. While the expected turnout was great, the actual turnout consisted of only four - Christian, Scott, Joe, and Paul Tomlinson who made the trek down from Maine. The four managed to entertain themselves with trading and Christian's Dreamcast-powered MAME cabinet. This meet also marked the first time Joe's SCSIcide 2600 cartridge was available outside of Las Vegas. Joe and Scott received complete copies of Beat Em and Eat Em in trade, which made the day well worth it indeed. February 23, 2002 - Out of the woodwork they come! Thanks to Christian's relentless advertising and propaganda posting on newsgroups and message boards, the NECG Meet finally became something to brag about. A staggering 12 attendees came together in Christian's living and game rooms to trade, game, share stories, and drink! Monitors and consoles were setup and ready for play in several locations, featuring an Atari Cuttle Cart, Jaguar, Vectrex Minicade, Nintendo PlayChoice, and Saturn Virtual On complete with Twin Stick action. The meet continued into the cold New England night, yet the gamers raged on through frantic trading, gaming, and more drinking! Fantastic trades were made, perhaps due to the influence of alcohol on the participants. The New England Classic Gaming community truly began to show its pride and unbreakable spirit on this occassion. With more gamers joining the ranks each week, the next meet will certainly be one for the ages. March 24, 2002 - The New England Gaming revolution begins... After two weeks of development, the New England Classic Gaming web site is officially announced. Excitement runs wild as area gamers flock to check out the new site and get involved in the local community. A slew of names are added to the people listing, and traffic to the site brings down the Galaxy host server for an hour the following evening. Things are good in New England. June 16, 2002 - Gamers Gone Wild - Caught on Tape! Maybe it was the web site. Maybe it was the onslaught of hype. Maybe a combination of both. Whatever the case, the Summer 2002 NECG meet illustrated exactly what we had in mind when we began these things. There was gaming. There was trading. There were prototypes. There was a good sized crowd. And there was enough beer for everyone. Best of all, it was documented in some detail for the first time (which would spawn a tradition!) Why not take a look for yourself, instead of reading this blabber. Click for June 16, 2002 coverage! October 19, 2002 - Fall Meet! More info on this one in the future. For now, enjoy the fresh and exciting coverage here! October 30, 2002 - The like us, they really like us! This evening, New England Classic Gaming received some serious exposure at AtariAge! Apparently, they think we're super fantastic, and who could really argue that? Thanks for the support guys! December, 2002 - NECG makes print! Thanks to Joe Santulli's Collector's Closet section of Tips & Tricks magazine, New England Classic Gaming has hit print for the very first time. The piece discusses local collector gatherings and tips on creating your own. You can see the article for yourself in January 2003 edition (issue #95.) I'll leave you with one quote, though. NECG people are "experienced cross-platform, cross-era gamers ... experts at running a small but diverse gathering which features as much trading as it does playing." While he forgot to mention just how good looking we are, I do think those words pretty much sum us up.
