Foolin around at SHS
By Chrissy Mate & Beth Goldstein
With flowers blooming and sunny days shining bright, April is
a month of happiness for most. Summer is on its way, but before
its arrival, tricksters of all kinds patiently await their day
of glory, April Fools Day.
Traced back to France in the late 1500s, an eight-day celebration
ending on April 1 was held each year to mark the beginning of
spring. A new calendar soon formed under Charles IX, but because
news traveled slowly, many people failed to accept the new calendar,
and were labeled fools. Before long, All Fools Day, commonly
called April Fools Day, evolved, an is now set aside for the
pranksters in us all.
