• Paulo Vieira, senior
Phobia: “If I didn’t have one I wouldn’t be filling this out. I’m afraid to die.” (thanatophobia); Cause of Phobia: “I just don’t want to stop existing.”; Reaction to Phobia: “I haven’t. If I did I would be dead!!”

• Katie Larsen, junior
Phobia: Riding on escalators; Cause of Phobia: “When I was younger, I saw two older kids playing on the escalator. They were running up it backwards (like going up the down one). It looked as if they were having fun until one of them lost their balance and fell all the way down to the bottom!!”; Reaction to Phobia: “I become tense, my heart rate increases while I’m on the escalator. I cannot talk to anyone. I just keep my eyes focused ahead refusing to look up or down. I have trouble getting on as well. I have to wait a second and make sure that I get on a full step. (I basically hesitate to get on it).”

• Nicole DePalma, freshman
Phobia: Bees & Clowns (apiphobia and coulrophobia); Cause of Phobia: Bees- “I’ve never been stung.” Clowns- “When I was younger and I got in trouble I had to stare at clown pictures.”; Reaction to Phobia: “I scream, run, or cry. (It depends).”

• Jessie Morris, freshman
Phobia: Aliens; Cause of Phobia: “When I was little, I had a really bad dream about them. Ever since then I have been afraid to even see pictures of them.”; Reaction to Phobia: “I can’t look at pictures, watch movies or do anything that has to do with aliens.”

• Danielle DeMelis, senior
Phobia: “I am terrified of feathers and fish.” (ichthyophobia); Reaction to Phobia: “I can’t move and the muscles in my hand tighten up and I can’t get my hands out of fists. And sometimes I shake.”

• Malik Sabree, senior
Phobia: Claustrophobia; Cause of Phobia: “When I was young, my mom stuck me in a closet and locked the door for a few minutes.”; Reaction to Phobia: “I get all jittery.”

• Kevin Sherwin, sophomore
Phobia: “I hate the dark water. I hate not being able to touch the ground, or not being able to see my feet.” (limnophobia); Cause of Phobia: “I fell out of a canoe in the middle of an alligator infested lake and the weeds were getting in my feet.”; Reaction to Phobia: “I kind of freak out and then I get out of the water.”

• Lindsay Turner, senior
Phobia: Fish (ichthyophobia); Cause of Phobia: “When I was swimming at the beach when I was little, a fish swam up my bathing suit.”; Reaction to Phobia: “I won’t swim anywhere but pools and I don’t eat seafood.”

• Jesse Spinola, senior
Phobia: “I have a fear of heights.” (acrophobia); Cause of Phobia: “When I was little, I went on an upside down roller coaster and almost fell out.”; Reaction to Phobia: “I get nauseous and get very bad dizzy spells.”

I don’t know what’s out there in the dark because I can’t see anything.”; Reaction to Phobia: “I run whenever I’m outside in the dark by myself and I carry a flashlight. If I’m home alone at night I lock all the doors and windows in the house and turn on a lot of lights, and I always have my dog MacKenzie near me.”

• Mr. Tucker
Phobia: Hydrophobia; Cause of Phobia: “I almost drowned during swimming lessons.”; Reaction to Phobia: “I try to avoid large bodies of water. (Showers are O.K.).”

• Lauren Hefez, freshman
Phobia: Underground pools with no water; Cause of Phobia: “Just the sight of empty pools freaks me out. When I was younger my mom always told me that if you are on drugs you do stupid things like diving into an empty pool. I don’t know, that could be why I get freaked out every time I see one.”; Reaction to Phobia: “I try to avoid coming in contact with empty pools. But if I do see an empty pool I usually flip out and feel like I am going to throw up and I get really dizzy.”

• Nicole Roy, senior
