'Sergeant' Flores leaves army for love of English
Ms. Flores, a new English teacher at SHS, previously taught at
Brockton High School and in the Boston Public Schools. She recently
returned to Massachusetts after a brief stay out of state. In
comparison to Brockton, the atmosphere at SHS is more flexible.
Flores said, Students here are more privileged and have more

watched? Teenagers have to deal with this in stores where they
get followed around and stared down. The reality is that teenage

Foolin' around at SHS
With flowers blooming and sunny days shining bright, April is
a month of happiness for most. Summer is on its way, but before
its arrival, tricksters of all kinds patiently await their day
of glory, April Fools Day. Traced back to France in the late
1500s, an eight-day celebration ending on April 1 was held each

Souza well on her way to the rod to fame
The talented singer Ashley Souza, senior, will continue her road
to fame in the fall as a major in vocal performance and music
management at the Berklee School of Music in Boston. I would
like to be a singer now but I want to go to school and learn how
to be a manager first, she said. By majoring in music management,
she can get a feel for what goes on in the music business and
at Berkley they have gig boards where she can sing for an audience. MORE>>> |
Working doesn't always pay for needs
The average employed teen at SHS works between 20-30 hours a week.
28% of students surveyed said that working has an impact on their
schoolwork. Some said that their job actually helps them with
their work or teaches them the skill of time management. Paula

Student vacations in unusual locations
Greece, the Grand Canyon, and a Dude Ranch were deemed the most
extraordinary vacation locations from a sampling of 100 SHS students.
Darlene Hughes, a senior, said her favorite part of Greece is
the exquisite ruins and the Crete Beaches because of the fresh
water and liveliness of it. I love the beaches
all of them.
Just getting away from home is great, said freshman Danae Roumis.

Our grandparents have many lessons to teach us. It was from our
grandparents, that our parents learned what they have passed onto
us. Jessica Diaz, senior, explained that her parents strictness
was a result of how their parents had raised them. Grandparents

Portugese community celebrates their beliefs
Being very religious people, the Portuguese hold traditional gatherings
to honor the Holy Spirit and many revered saints. These festivals
are a way to keep Portuguese immigrants and their families in
touch with their cultural beliefs. The events usually begin on

Teachers react to reality show Survivor
Mrs. Weiner enjoys watching Survivor. She likes how it is not
scripted and the dynamics among the people interest her. Her one
luxury item would be a deck of cards. My biggest fear of being
on this show would be getting voted off in the first round. Ms.
Garney is not interested in reality shows, but has seen Survivor
