Line Share DSL vs. Dry Loop DSL

Line Share DSL

This DSL connection type utilizes your home’s existing Verizon phone service. Galaxy Internet Services will simply add DSL access to your phone line. This enables you to choose which ‘live’ phone jack the DSL modem/router will connect to. This does not influence any existing calling plans and or features you currently use with your phone service. You can continue to use your Verizon phone service in conjunction with your High Speed Galaxy DSL.

Once installed you would have the option of:

  1. Porting your existing dial tone service and number to Galaxy Voice. This option would require an active Galaxy Voice account utilizing VoIP calling equipment.
  2. Converting to a Dry Loop DSL connection by removing dial tone service from your Verizon line. This procedure must be coordinated through a Galaxy Internet Services team member. For assistance with this type of request please call 617-558-0900 or email dslorder@gis.net

Dry Loop DSL

This DSL connection type is also known as "Naked DSL". This is a telephone line in place for the sole purpose of providing DSL. There is no dial tone on the line so no calls can be made from it - excluding VoIP of course, which uses your High Speed connection to place and receive telephone calls.

Dry Loop DSL is a great option of users who:

  1. Do not maintain an active home phone service, relying primarily on cell phones or VoIP service.
  2. Wish to run a Dedicated Internet connection from their existing Network Interface Deviced (NID) that will not touch any existing phone wiring within the home or business.
  3. Add a secondary Internet connection that can then be bridged with a primary connection, providing greater speeds and back up capability.

Please note that the Customer is responsible to wire a standard RJ11 phone jack back to their copper NID. Galaxy Internet Services is only required provide a working DSL connection to the NID, the customer must then extend the line to were they wish for the internal Local Area network to begin.
