10 Ways to Make Hospitals Healthier Places

Number 1

Cleaner Hospital Rooms

Cleaning methods in hospitals are outdated!

  • Patient rooms need to be electronically cleaned or sanitized!
  • Cleaning equipment should not be used from room to room!
  • Custodial staff need training in new hygenic cleaning methodologies!

Number 2

Private Hospital Rooms

Patient care at all levels must be separate - in separate rooms!

  • Cost factors are neutralized by reduction of infectious deseases!
  • Separate hospital rooms for each and every patient must become hospital standard!

Number 3

Hand Washing

All staff members are guilty of failing to clean their hands!

  • Hands must not only be cleaned between patients but also between the same patient's different procedures and body parts!
  • Washing with soap and water is vital!
  • Cleansing with chemical solutions may substitute in some circumstances!
  • All hospital visitors also must hand wash or chemical clease before entering and upon exiting patient rooms!

Number 4

New Antibiotics

Antibiotics which we have today are failing us!

  • Government funds for research and development of new antibiotics are overdue!
  • Antibiotics development needs government subsidization because so far the lifespan of each antibiotic is too brief to make any one antibiotic seriously profitable!

Number 5

Gloves, Gowning, and Slippers

Staff and visitors are carrying bacteria on their person, clothes, hands, and feet!

  • Staff need to don different colored gloves appropriate for each particular interaction or procedure with a patient!
  • Staff also may need to don gowns and slippers in order to avoid carrying infectious bacteria!
  • Even visitors may need to don gloves, gowns, and slippers to reduce carrying bacteria!

Number 6

Warning Lights and Signals

Presently, we have no way of knowing when bacteria have been introduced into a patient's environment!

  • Warning devices specific to bacteria present must be devised!
  • Lights and sounds must warm us when bacteria have been brought into a patient's room!
  • Responsive electronic sanitization immediately must be activated to kill the bacteria!
  • Since these devices will be utilized long-term, it will profitable for private industry to develop them!

Number 7

Inspection Machines for People

Right now, anyone can walk into a hospital unknowingly carrying all sorts of bacteria on their person or clothing!

  • Like airport inspection machines, we need pass-through machinery to warn us when someone is carrying bacteria!
  • Likewise, we need portable electronic devices to de-bacterialize carriers!
  • Since these devices will be utilized long-term, it will profitable for private industry to develop them!

Number 8

Inspection Machines for Equipment

Right now, hospital equipment travels throughout the hospital with the bare minimum of a quick wipe-down at best!

  • We need portable inspection machines to determine whether each and every piece of hospital equipment is carrying bacteria!
  • Likewise, we need portable electronic devices to de-bacterialize pieces of equipment!
  • Since these devices will be utilized long-term, it will profitable for private industry to develop them!

Number 9

Public Relations (PR) and Signage

Like the dangers of cigarettes from tobacco, we need to more agressively let people know about the dangers of hospital infections from bacteria!

  • Signage must be abundant about both the problems and required responsive behaviors!
  • Education of the public and staff must be on-going via in-house and external media outlets!
  • A scare campaign is fully warranted by the extent of hospital deaths from hospital infections!

Number 10

Healthy Hospitals

If we expect patients to enter hospitals with some confidence that they won't be exposed to deseases which they don't yet have, then we must deal with hospital infections now!

  • We as the public and we as hospital staff must vigorously attack this pandemic of bacteria in hospitals!
  • These steps are not for future reference but rather for the future of health institutions!
  • Each of us must advocate loudly for healthy hospitals!
