Waiver Promotion
You can be promoted early
You can be promoted early or without holding a terminal degree

A "waiver promotion" is one based on the language quoted below.  In your portfolio notify evaluators  that you are applying for promotion under the provisions of Article XX, Section B and cite the provision of Article XX, Section B that fits your circumstances.  Because your portfolio must demonstrate that do, in fact, meet Article XX requirements, the burden on you is quite heavy, but some of your colleagues (including me) have been able to do so successfully.  I suggest that you quote the text below in your portfolio and highlight it in your narrative.  Be very clear about how your portfolio demonstrates that you "render a unique academic contribution to the college;"  possess "extraordinary competence in your discipline" or that your "discipline or specialty does not customarily demand fulfillment of the [contractual] academic degree requirements."

You might write something like this:

Although I have not had X number of years of teaching experience, I am applying for promotion using the provisions of Article XX, B, which allows promotion for candidates who demonstrate extraordinary competence in their disciplines or specialties.  My portfolio will demonstrate extraordinary competence in the discipline of . . . .   Please note the text of Article XX, B, which may be found on page 248 of the Collective Bargaining Agreement.

Nothing in these requirements should be construed to prohibit the appointment or promotion of an individual of exceptional talent or accomplishment who does not meet all the stated criteria.
