Librarian Evaluation Criteria and Categories
 

               
General Principles
  • Evaluators must give regard to the fact that the college is a teaching institution.
     
  • The evaluation standard for reappointment is professional quality.
     
  • The evaluation standard for promotion is meritorious performance.
     

 
Required for all candidates
  • Effectiveness in performing assigned responsibilities within the library
     
  • Effectiveness in rendering assistance to students, faculty, and the academic community
     
 

Appendix A(2)

You will find a copy of Appendix A(2) in your copy of the  Collective Bargaining Agreement.  The CBA is also available on the MSCA web page <www.mscaunion.org>.   The  hyperlink below will take you directly to Appendix A1.   My advice on using Appendix A(2) is included below.

For all personnel actions, you must include a copy of Appendix A(2) with your portfolio.  Make your selections clear.

  • Be very careful about choosing categories.  By checking or choosing a category on Appendix A(1), you are telling evaluators that this is what you want to be evaluated on.  If you have any doubt about your choice, consult an MSCA officer.

  • You must choose at least one item in each applicable category on Appendix A(2). 

  • You don't need to, and almost always shouldn't, check more than one item in each category.     

  • You have no obligation to choose any specific item.   

  • You may not be denied a personnel action "by the sole reason of not engaging in one or another."

 

Category I -- Continuing scholarship  -
You must choose at least one--- it's usually best to choose just one.
Think carefully before choosing.
 

  • Contribution the content and pedagogy of the discipline as evidenced by participation in and contributions to the improvement and development of library programs or library services
     

  • Participation in / contributions to professional organizations and societies
     

  • Research – published or unpublished
     

  • Work toward a terminal degree or relevant post graduate study

  • Other (explain)
     


 

Category II -- Professional Activities
