• Understands the teaching and advising process (at the college level)
  

• Has two years professional experience in any profession that he or she is teaching
  

• May not remain in this rank for more than 5 years
  

   

Requirements for promotion to assistant professor

• A terminal degree
   

• Meritorious performance as demonstrated by evaluations

Assistant Professor

• Has a terminal degree (unless appointed before 1988)

Requirements for promotion to associate professor

• 6 Years full-time teaching experience at a two-year or four-year college or university
   

• 3 years as an Assistant Professor

  You should apply for promotion by April 1 of the year in which you have both  6 years of full-time teaching experience at a two-year or four-year college or university and 3 years in rank.
   

  You will be evaluated for promotion during your 7th/4th year.
   

  Your promotion will become effective on September 1 of your 8th/5thyear.

Associate Professor

• Has a terminal degree
   

• Has 6 years full-time experience of which 3 years were in a 2- or 4-year college
  

Requirements for promotion to professor

• 8 years full-time experience of which 5 were in a 2-year or 4-year college

• 4 years of experience as an Associate Professor at a 4-year college
  

• You should apply for promotion by April 1 of the year in which you have  8 years of full-time teaching experience at a two-year or four-year college or university and 4 years in rank.
   

• You will be evaluated for promotion during your 9th /5th year.
   

• Your promotion will become effective on September 1 of your 10th/6th year.

 

• Meritorious performance as demonstrated by evaluations
